food manifesto
Collaborating to transition to a regenerative food system
relevant fact
Did you know that the human sensory system can distinguish over 100,000 different flavors? Between the 5/6 basic tastes and taking into consideration intensity levels and mixtures, there’s a practically endless amount of flavours to experience throughout our lifetimes.
the 7 principles
This manifesto rises from the belief that there is a way to broad planetary prosperity that starts from our individual and collective food choices. While we are able to choose what we eat, we can influence our own wellbeing and that of the planet.
Our intention is to support personal and societal transformation through inspiration, underlined by scientific research.
Our choices need to bring us pleasure, health, connection and well being and we propose the following 7 principles to make the best choices
LISTEN TO YOUR REAL NEEDS
The foods we eat promote the growth of different bacteria and other microorganisms in our gut.
When we eat the right foods in the right amount for us (…) we are surprised by how friendly and clear our inner voice becomes.
more plants, more leaves
When we eat natural fresh food fibers in greens, salads, roots, seeds, green leaves, we are feeding the bacteria and microorganisms inhabiting our gut — considered the second brain — to promote overall health, giving us access to a second intelligence in our body.
back to cooking
Rediscovering the importance and the creative potential of cooking has become a civilizational stepping stone into a more resilient future! Cooking our food is the best contribution to everyone’s health — sharing love, channeling creativity and curiosity, experimenting and discovering new pleasures!
local & seasonal products
When shocks and stresses tilt the balance in our system we need to continue to be able to satisfy our basic needs locally, relying on functional ecosystems and infrastructure and on thriving communities!
more diversity on our plates
The collective wisdom of several communities renown for their longevity indicates that the more colors you bring to your dish, the better your health! Each of the ways we can prepare food also brings health and flavour in their own way.
respecting the origins of our food
Knowing and respecting the origin of every ingredient we ingest – or as some may put it: the biography of each food – allows us to make conscious choices and cease to delegate the holding space of health and wellbeing to others.
appreciating all our ingredients
When we compare the beauty and elegance of a forest in its full, continuous regeneration process, leaving no trace of waste, with the ugly, dirty leakage inevitable in industrial processes, we wonder which of the two is the most evolved!
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN IN PRACTICE?
By being actively aware of the whole life-cycle of food, from seed to sharing to stomach we can own our life path, and the physical, emotional, energetic and intellectual dimensions of our body. Every day we need to go for the healthiest food option we have at hand.
Before we decide what we are going to eat, ask:
- Where is it from? How was it grown? Is the price fair?
- Is it fresh? Is it processed? Can I recognise the ingredients?
- Is it homemade? Was it prepared with love? Is it accessible to those who need it?
We propose to take an activist stance, to be constructive and inclusive, so everyone may gain access to healthy and organic food. We need to ensure the Planet’s regeneration capacity is not hampered.
we need to act
- “For me, food means healing” – Our individual choices enhance longevity
- “For all of us, food means connecting & celebrating” – Our collective choices shape the food supply system
- “For everyone & the planet, food means regenerating” – All of our food choices determine the Planet’s regeneration capacity
As such, we have put together a collection of recipes put together by our community.
